This & That: A Collection of Random-ness from our Home

  • As of a little over a week ago, we are ALL HEALTHY!!!!
  • After a few days of health, Abi got cranky and started throwing up again. Thinking she might have an ear infection, we brought her to the doctor. Her ears are fine. She is likely just teething. Unfortunately, it took a copay to know for sure! No signs of an additional tooth, though.

  • I told Eli there was a baby growing in mommy’s tummy. Eli laughed and said, “No, mommy. Belllies are for tickling.” He lifted up a shirt, asking for tickles.
  • Matt’s job is ending at Focus. His last day will be December 30th. He will be doing some side jobs, while looking and deciding what is next.
  • We are discovering that Abi has a temper. She arches her back and throws quite the tantrum when things don’t go her way. This could be interesting, but will not be acceptable in our home!
  • I heard the new baby’s heartbeat at my last OB appointment. So far, everything is fine! We are looking forward to finding out the baby’s gender on January 7th!

  • I told Eli that we were going to have another baby in the house. He asked if Abi was going away. I told him that Abi would be a big sister, too, and would stay here. Eli is now fixated on the fact that Abi is getting bigger, but says, “No, mommy!” whenever I also say that Eli is getting bigger.
  • Abi has been on cow’s milk formula since Saturday and is doing great! In fact, her intake increased by about 10 ounces. Apparently she likes the taste of cow’s milk much better than Elecare! It looks like she has outgrown her allergy…yea!
  • Matt and Eli went to Home Depot’s kid workshop and built a wagon. Eli is so proud of his wagon and brings it with him all over the house!

  • Both kids are sleeping through the night again. Thank God!
  • Our Christmas decorations are up! The kids love the Christmas tree, though there are no ornaments on the bottom half of the tree. Eli has to get on his step stool to point to the ornaments.

  • We started having family time every evening, opening a door to our new advent calendar. Eli looks forward to it every evening. Abi usually sucks on the nativity scene during advent.
  • Abi loves playing on the stairs. She is stable enough, we let her go up by herself. She doesn’t even try going down, so we don’t have to use gates. It has been very nice!

  • I’m almost done making Christmas cookies! Eli likes to play with play-doh at the table while I am baking them. He also likes to sample them for me!
  • Eli has just entered the asking questions phase of life. Right now, the big question is “what?” He also loves to respond to any question with, “I don’t know.”
  • Abi is officially wearing 9-12 month clothes. They looked so big, and I was shocked when I dressed her in an outfit and realized it fit perfect. My sweet little girl is getting bigger!
  • Eli has started enjoying the PBS show “Sid the Science Kid,” learning all sorts of things including feet grow and shoes don’t shrink, why the wind blows, and how to measure things. He talks about the things he is learning all the time!
  • Matt has shoveled the driveway in frigid temperatures more times than I can count on one hand over the last week. It has continued to snow a small amount everyday. We are thankful to see beautiful blue skies and sunshine again, finally!
  • Eli knows that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday and that we have lots of celebrations of Jesus’ birthday with family. He is very excited to spend time with both sides of the family.
  • Abi has learned to open cupboards and loves to pull out all the contents in the kitchen. It makes a mess, but she is well entertained!

  • Eli has a keen fascination with escalators. When we mention flying to see Grandpa and Grandma, he immediately exclaims that he gets to bring his suitcase and ride on the escalators! He never mentions the airplane.

  • At Abi’s doctor’s appointment last week, she weighed in at 16.3 pounds.
  • We are no longer bringing Abi to a GI specialist, as she is doing great!
  • We tried going to the Festival of Lights parade downtown over the weekend, but we had to leave early as Abi was throwing a full-fledged temper tantrum about being in her snow storm. The temperature was in single digits. She didn’t have a choice.
