What Made My 1st Mother’s Day Special

What Made Mother’s Day Special This Year:

1. I’m a Mom! I got to proudly bring my little boy with me to church, and when they asked all the mom’s in the sanctuary to stand up, I actually got to stand up!

2. Elijah has started to smile more often! It is so hard to get frustrated or impatient with him when he gives us his wide mouthed grin! In fact, it melts our hearts!

3. Elijah and Matt had some special treats for me. First, Matt treated me to a massage on Saturday while he and Eli did some shopping together. Then on Saturday, I awoke to a gift bag beside my bed with the newest Shane & Shane CD and two precious cards. Matt even helped Eli sign his name! Let’s just say my first mother’s day cards probably won’t ever be thrown away! Matt also surprised me with dinner out at Olive Garden after church…complete with leftovers so I didn’t have to cook all day!

4. I snuck this shot in on Mother’s Day morning of Matt trying to get a few extra winks in while caring for Eli while I was getting ready for church. How precious is this!! Eli has this biological clock inside of him that doesn’t let him sleep past 6 in the morning. So the fact that Eli’s eyes are shut and its after 6 in the morning is a special treat, too!!

5. The three of us took our first bike ride together. Thanks to the Baby Bjorn, Eli was snug as a bug on my chest. We didn’t ride as far as we normally do, but it was so nice to be outside in the beautiful weather. We even stopped to watch a few minutes of a soccer game down at the park. I even manged to make it home with my little boy strapped to my chest…which is all uphill, I might add!

6. Elijah’s bowels started causing him grief from the transition of breast milk to formula. Matt tried the old thermometer trick and got some results…however, our little buy was very fussy and in tears later in the day due to the ailment of constipation. So we called the on-call number at our pediatrician’s office for the first time with the suggestion to give him 2 ounces of apple juice. So after introducing Elijah to his first “non-milk” substance…which he loved, by the way…he finished off the special treat by throwing up all over mom and himself! So I guess you can say, I was officially inducted into mom-hood yesterday!

7. God blessed us with beautiful sunshine and bright blue skies all weekend! So we celebrated with a picnic at Cottonwood Creek Park on Friday, followed by a cookout at Monument Valley Park with our friends, Nate and Barbi, on Saturday evening, complete with giant ice cream cones at Rizuttos!

So Happy Mother’s Day (a day late) to all you mom’s out there! And I hope the rest of you enjoyed the weekend, too!
